The Banana Caterpillar

The banana caterpillar is a real favourite of mine and probably the most regular visitor to the breakfast table. You can add all sorts of things to the scene around the caterpillar and it is a really easy but effective creation.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
  • 1 banana
  • Handful of raisins (enough to make legs and eyes depending on how many segments you cut your banana in to
  • 1 strawberry
  • 2 raspberries (or green grapes)
  • 1 pear
HOW TO MAKE IT:
  1. Peel the banana and cut it in to segments (width is a personal preference)
  2. Remove the end pointy section from one of the ends and place the next segment flat to make the caterpillar head
  3. With a sharp knife, cut a 'smile' in to the banana segment face
  4. Place two raisins on the face for eyes
  5. Place raisins between each segment on either side for caterpillar legs
  6. Cut off a thin slice of the end of the strawberry with the stalk on and cut another slice for the middle of the flower
  7. Place the remainder of the strawberry flat-side down and from the top, cut it in to 8 segments for the petals
  8. Cut a thin strip of pear (or apple) to make the stem
  9. Place raspberries, grapes or any other type of berry for leaves
  10. Cut a pear in to thin strips to give that 'grass' effect
This is an adaptation.
